  • Fiberglass batts can insulate the wall cavity, but not the framing.
  • Uninsulated wood framing makes up to ¼ of the wall area of a home.
  •

The benefits of Generations Thermal Core Siding include:

    Increased Energy Efficiency
    • Wrapping your home with the Generations Insulated Exterior Wall System provides a blanket of protection over the un-insulated wood framing, and may provide energy cost savings of 20% or more annually.
    • The need for other foam insulations is eliminated.
    Increased R Value
    • R-Value is the measurement of resistance to hot air moving towards cold air. Generations features R-Values ranging from 2.88 to 3.57. The higher the number the better the insulating property.
    Energy Star Qualified
    • Energy efficiencies are high enough that they contribute to less energy generation. Less energy production contributes to a cleaner environment.
    Reduced Noise Transmission
    • Foam lamination reduces noise from outside the home.

PGT® Vinyl Windows (as seen above) and Doors (as seen below) feature a beautiful, clean look that’s virtually maintenance-free. Unlike wood sashes and frames that split, rot and require regular painting, vinyl frames are highly resistant to all the environmental factors that limit the life of wooden frames. Vinyl’s superior insulation keeps the frame tight and intact, without swelling or warping.PGT Vinyl Windows and Doors even make it easy to perform what little maintenance is required. All single hung windows and double hung windows feature a convenient tilt-in sash for easy cleaning of both inside and outside surfaces.New windows can do much more than beautify your home. They can also lower your energy bills. From the quality materials used in the frames to the double-pane insulating glass used in their assembly, PGT Vinyl Windows and Doors are your homes best barrier against wasted energy.  NRG offers many Energy Star® rated configurations of windows and doors.

Important checklist to keep you safe and prepared for the upcoming winter:
    • Inspect and clean gutters and downspouts.
    • Seal gaps and cracks around windows and doors with weather-stripping and caulk.
    • Inspect your roof for damaged or curled shingles, corroded flashing, or leaky vents.
    • Take steps to repair damaged sidewalks, driveways, and steps.
    • Drain and winterize outdoor faucets and irrigation systems.
    • Clean or replace dirty furnace filters.
    • Have a professional inspect your heating system.
    • Check fireplaces for soot or creosote build-up. Better yet, schedule a visit from a reputable chimney sweep.
    • Clean humidifier plates or pads to ensure efficient operation.
    • If you have a gas-fired room heater, have it inspected by a pro. Also, perform any routine maintenance recommended by the maker.
    • Wood stoves are making a comeback. To avoid a deadly situation, be sure to inspect yours before firing it up.
    • A home safety check should be an annual ritual in every household. Test smoke and CO monitors, inspect (or install) fire extinguishers, review fire escape plans, and rid your home of old newspapers and other fire hazards.

    Save money with
    Energy-Effecient Windows
    (Regular Windows vs Energy Effecient)
A building's windows dramatically affect its energy efficiency. In winter, heat loss through typical windows can boost a building's heating bill as much as 25 percent (see References 1). In summer, the heat flow reverses, with sunlight warming the building's interior through its windows and causing air conditioners to work harder. Energy-efficient windows can help in both these situations. And if the building's electricity comes from a fossil-fuel power plant, installing energy-saving windows also shrinks the building's carbon footprint by reducing greenhouse gas emissions at that plant.
    Structural Differences
Most normal windows use a single glass pane that readily conducts heat into and out of a building. Normal window frames also cause heat loss if they're made of highly conductive material such as aluminum or if they're not tightly sealed. Energy-efficient windows have multiple panes of glass that minimize heat transfer with insulating air spaces between the panes. Efficiency is increased further when those spaces are filled with nontoxic gases such as krypton or argon and when low-conductivity spacers are used between the panes. (See References 1, 2, 3 and 4)
    Surface Coating
Applying low-emissivity, or low-e, coatings to glass surfaces is an additional way of controlling heat transfers. When applied to outside glass panes, these microscopically thin metal or metallic oxide layers keep buildings cooler in the summer by reflecting sunlight. In the winter, low-e coatings on interior panes maintain indoor temperatures by preventing heat from escaping. (See References 1 and 5) Energy Star Windows and other products with the Energy Star label have met federal guidelines for energy efficiency. The Energy Star program is jointly run by the Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Energy to promote environmentally friendly energy practices. Use of Energy Star-approved products in 2009 saved an estimated $17 billion on utility bills in the United States and reduced greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to those generated by about 30 million cars. (See References 6)
    Considerations
Building energy-efficient windows into a new home saves money by allowing installation of smaller, less costly cooling and heating equipment. When looking for new windows, check with local utilities for cash rebates and other incentives for installing energy-saving replacement windows. The best windows for cold climates will be different from the most efficient windows for warm or temperate climates. Make sure you select windows constructed for the climate and sunlight conditions where you intend to install them. (See References 1 and 3)

Transform your home in ONE DAY!

A common dilemma of our clients is that their existing screen room is not as functional as they would like it to be. Using the space comfortably seems impossible with moldy/stale water-stained furniture and the never ending cleaning of dust and pollen build up. Not to mention the heat! A PGT EzeBreeze Vinyl Glass room through NRG keeps more than the bugs out, and doesn't break the bank! We just finished this vinyl glass conversion and wanted to share with you the ease and efficiency of transforming your home with NRG!

In just one day, our professional installers removed the existing screening and framed the openings for the new EzeBreeze vinyl glass window units. As seen in the photos below, the screening and white vinyl frames were removed in order to build the new frames. The vinyl glass units were then carefully installed into their sliding-track frame for easy operation!

Now, they will be able to close off their enclosed patio room from weathering and pollen build up in one easy movement! Not to mention the cooling capabilities of the 3-season room that can be heated and cooled to make you and your guests more comfortable!

What are your style options with a PGT vinyl room? The two options below are our most popular selections.

We are eager to share more of our home improvement tips with you. Stay tuned for more updates/ photos and remember to call us for ANY of your renovation needs.

What are the differences between a Screen Room, Vinyl Glass Room, or Glass Room?

More and more people are adding screen rooms and sun rooms because they enjoy outdoor living.  A common question of those in the market for a room tend to ask what kind of room is right for me and what are the differences?  In the blog today, I will discuss the difference between the three options -screen, vinyl glass, and a glass room.  Although, most people already know the difference between a screen room and a glass room many have never heard of vinyl glass.  I

Screen rooms are generally speaking, the most affordable of all the room options.  The screen allows for the breeze to come in to your porch area while protecting you from bugs and the harmful rays of direct sunlight.  It is a great place for outdoor furniture and plants.

A glass room allows for the same protection as the screen room but offers the ability to insulate the area, heat/cool the space, protect valuable furniture, and in essence makes it a habitable living space.  Many of our customers use their sunrooms for dining areas or family rooms, essentially utilizing it as an extension of their home.  Our customers use their sunrooms for different reasons but mostly to entertain friends and family or escape after a busy day.

Our last option is very popular, especially if you already have a screen room since the window panels are custom fit to the existing screen openings.   Although many people are not familiar with PGT's Eze-Breeze (vinyl glass) sliding panels they are excited about them because they are weather resistant, shatterproof, and very affordable.  The vinyl glass room allows for an outdoor living area and the screen porch feel, while providing protection from the elements with lightweight, easy-to-operate vinyl-glazed panels.
